History of the AFL
1993: Brian Haynes and Steve Leslie started a Fantasy football league. The league consisted of just two teams but did not use team names this year. Brian won the first title of the league.

1994: A third team, Curt Schmidt, joined the league and the league was officially named the Haynes Leslie Schmidt (HLS) League. Team names were still not used. Curt won his first title.

1996: The League expanded by two teams with Pat Bortka and Loren Bogart joining the league. Team names were used for the first time, as Curt Schmidt won his second title, first as the Sharks.

1997: The league made its largest team expansion in its history by expanding by seven teams for a total of 12 teams. Teams were given a salary cap but they could use the same players that other teams used on their roster. A major controversy had developed with in the last couple of weeks of the season. The Goatriders had been found running over the salary cap. With one week remaining they were very close to over taking the Warriors for the title. The Warriors pulled it out the last week, which ended the controversy. At this time there were no 2nd place winnings.

1998: The League dropped to ll teams with 3 teams, the Clippers, the Pimps and Goatriders dropping out of the league as 2 teams joined the league. The teams that joined were the Holsteins - Gary Hallock, and the Hawks - Jason Wakefield. The Sharks took their 3rd and last title this year. This was the 1st year Head to Head play was used, but the points leader was still considered the title holder. There were no Divisions in the Head to Head, and the Hawks won the head to head title.

1999: The Harlots became the Tigers, the Twisters became the Hogs and a new team the Humpbacks - Clint Giffin was added to make the league 12 teams again. The League had what some may say, was an unbelievable finish. The Stars had been dominating all season, with just 2 weeks left the Hogs had climbed into 2nd place after being dead last through half the season. The Stars still had a 163 point lead over the Hogs, but in week 16 the Stars had a bad week and only scored 78 points, while the Hogs scored 204 points. With one week to go, the Hogs were 9 points down, the Stars then had another low week, scoring 128 as the Hogs scored 141, which gave them their 2nd title. The Stars did take the Head to Head this year by 2 games over the Hawks.

The League dropped to a 10 team league and decided to not go with any more than ten teams ever again. Teams could no longer have the same players on their rosters, but the salary cap was dropped. 2002 the League decided to change the name of the league to the AFL (American Fantasy League). The Cougars drop out of the League as the Dozers - Barry Whittle came into the league. The Hogs pulled off something that had never happened in the league before, they started off in 1st place in week 1 and never lost 1st place all season long and won their 3rd title

2004: The league starts Head to Head back up, this time with 2 divisions, Red Division and Gold Division. To be more in line with the NFL it was decided that the Division winners would play the final week of the NFL regular season in the Fantasy Bowl, for the AFL title. This would be the first time the points winner was not the AFL Title holder. The Points winner would be crowned Top Dog. In the first Fantasy Bowl the Infernos beat the Hogs 186 pts to 184 pts, giving the Infernos their 2nd title. The Warriors were crowned the 1st Top Dog winner.

2005: The League remained the same, except the title game is played on week 16 not 17, this was done due to NFL teams that had secured a playoff spot were not playing top players the last game of the season. The Vipers left the league in 2005 for one season to serve his Country in Iraq and the Hitmen - Tyler Haynes joined the league for one season to fill in for the Vipers. The Dozers win the AFL title in 2005 as the Infernos take the Top Dog Award.

2009: The league made a draft day rule change that requires the owner or their representative to be present during the draft. With this rule change the Hawks and the Heroes left the league, while the Tubbys -Matt Reed and the KB Chiefs -Kris Barker joined the league. The DieNastys won their 2nd AFL title by beating the Stars 130 to 123 in Fantasy Bowl 6, as the Dozers took the Top Dog Award.

2011: This season the league went back to playing 2 QB's on the starting roster. The Hogs won their 4th AFL Championship by beating the Tubbys in Fantasy Bowl 8, which made them the first to reach 4 AFL Titles. The Dozers won their 3rd Top Dog Title, which made them the first to win 3 Top Dog Titles.
